In this beautiful, breath taking, well-known and frequently visited NL tourism site one can enjoy the site of soaring fjords and beautiful mountains that tower above a diverse number of beaches, forests and cliffs. This area is shaped by colliding continents and grinding glaciers.

Gros Morne National Parks’ ancient landscape is a World Heritage Site. Visitors can walk along coastal pathways and comb endless beaches. They also have the opportunity to cruise the dramatic, sheer-walled gorge of Western Brook Pond. It’s likely one will see a moose and possibly even caribou. Visitors especially enjoy the hike to alpine highlands where Arctic hare and ptarmigan live on the tundra, and can explore the colourful culture of nearby seaside communities.

Gros Morne National Park Mountains

I’ve had the opportunity to visit and explore this beautiful area of our rugged province. Tourism thrives in this area during the summer months. It is personally my favourite land mark in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is so breathtakingly beautiful.

One thing a tourist can do is a tour. There is a guided day hike to this exact location where you can have your picture taken. After a 45-minute walk to the dock, you take a boat shuttle that drops you and your guide off at the mouth of the fjord. Your guide brings you up to the top of the gorge and along the way provides interpretation of the ecosystem and history of the area. Once you have taken in the view and had a well-deserved lunch break, you will head back down and hop back on the shuttle to return to the dock and the 45-minute walk back to the parking area. While the entire excursion takes about 8 hours, the actual hike from where the boat drops you off to the top of the gorge is about 3.5-4 hours depending on your hiking ability and how much you are carrying. This is an experience everyone should try to take in at once in their lifetime.

Rocky Harbour is located on the west coast of Newfoundland in the heart of Gros Morne National Park.

Rocky Harbour is the largest community in Gros Morne National Park and is centrally located.

The town’s history has been closely linked with fishing and the wood industry, yet the town of Rocky Harbour has grown into a tourism community.

Because of its’ strategic location in Gros Morne National Park, you can use Rocky Harbour as your home base as you take in the many cultural and scenic attractions that are available in this area.

While visiting I would recommend the town of Rocky Harbour as your ideal place of stay as you explore Gros Morne National Park. While visiting Gros Morne I stayed in a cottage in Rocky Harbour and went fishing and met some amazing people.

Beautiful town of Rocky Harbour

All of Newfoundland and Labrador is extremely beautiful and so much to experience but if I had to pick one location it for sure would be Gros Morne National park!

Sarah Barry

I live in Wabush, Newfoundland and Labrador which is located in the West side of Labrador. It has a population of around 2000!!

Wabush was incorporated in 1967, this summer we are currently celebrating our 50th year anniversary! It is a small mining community, in which they mine iron ore.

Like most places in Labrador, Wabush has subarctic winters, winter starts in September and lasts until about May. We like to say we have two seasons, winter and fall as it’s always pretty cold!! We have some of the snowiest winters in all of Canada.

The town is very remote however does have a lot to offer! There are many outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, sliding, hiking, camping, and kayaking! Wabush is 7km away from Labrador City which has a population of 11 000 and is where we buy groceries, shop and go to restaurants! We do not have amenities such as a movie theatre, many clothing stores or public busing systems.

Even though it is a small remote town, it is a community full of love, support, care and is very friendly! I am so thankful I was raised in a safe town with little crime and it has also taught me many important things about life.

Personally, my favourite thing about my hometown is everyone knows everyone. Whenever I go in public people always know you, you can speak with everyone! I also love the beautiful scenery we have and being able to go skidooing in the winter. I started to drive a skidoo at the age of 4 and have loved doing so ever since.

I would definitely recommend visiting Labrador, it’s for sure a beautiful place!!

We have been having so much fun!! Definitely a once in a lifetime experience!

Everything started Sunday night, we had a super awesome sponsor party with the great sponsors and all received some cool gifts! Thank you to all our generous sponsors, Nine West, Archer Dental, Golden glamour Goddesses, sketchers, the Kra company, babe Box, snappy towels and Helene Clarkson Design!

Morning morning we started off with hair and make up with the lovely ladies from Hair Passion and went on to have AMAZING photoshoots with Erwin Loewen and our swimwear photoshoot with Raad, it was a great time and got the nicest photos!

Tuesday was a full day of rehearsals to make sure we look our best on stage!

Wednesday was a busy day! We started off on Breakfast Television and then went to Ripleys Aquarium (which was the most phenomenal place ever, totally loved it). We then spent the afternoon on a beautiful Mariposa Cruise, they provided a yummy lunch and got to see the beautiful Toronto City Skyline! From there we had a shopping spree at the Yorkdale Mall and had a meet and greet at Nine West and all got to pick out a stunning pair of shoes or purse! We finished our great day at Pizza e Pazzi with some delicious supper! I am so thankful for all the sponsors that day for making our day so enjoyable!

With pageant week quickly approaching, I decided to write a blog about how I maintain a healthy lifestyle and how important and beneficially to do so!

When I say “healthy lifestyle”, I’m not talking about how skinny or fit you are, I am referring to eating well, exercising and having good sleeping habits.

Every day you should have a good breakfast; it’s such an important meal and definitely not one you should skip. With breakfast you should make sure you have portions of protein, carbs and fats; a good breakfast will help you throughout the rest of the day. For lunch, there are so many different options you could have. Be sure to eat enough to keep you feeling full until your suppertime. For supper, you should always make sure you are getting a good amount of protein and other vitamins you need – meat and vegetables are always a great choice for supper. Making sure you eat your three meals per day is very crucial. Also, don’t forget throughout the day to have a few snacks to keep you from getting hungry!

As for exercise, you should try to engage in at least 225 minutes of aerobic exercise every week. This could be done by running, going to work out classes, dancing, sports, going to the gym and much more. There are so many ways to get the exercise you need every week to maintain a healthy life. Make the time to get in your exercise each week! Myself, I make an effort to ensure I can spend one hour a day at the gym and I also have sporting activities 3-4 times a week.

I play soccer as one of the sports I take part in to stay active 😊

I go to the gym for an hour everyday to receive the aerobic exercise I need!

Sleeping is another important part of a healthy lifestyle. You should try to get around 8 hours of consecutive sleep every night to function at your very best. The amount of sleep you get affects your mental and physical health and your quality of life.

Having a balanced and healthy lifestyle has its benefits. In the long-term it will help you maintain a healthy weight which can add years to your life and it can reduce the chances of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease or obesity. In the short-term it will make you feel great about yourself and give you more energy.

If you want to learn more about how to live a healthy lifestyle but you are not sure where to start you can always get connected with a personal trainer who will help determine your exercise regime as well as how to improve your diet. Also remember, it is not wrong to have a treat sometimes and you do not need to work out every day.

Personally I enjoy keeping a healthy lifestyle because it helps with my mental health by making me feel better and because I enjoy doing so!

Yours truly,
Miss World Labrador

With this being my first blog post I wanted to introduce myself a little bit, so you can get to know me 🙂

I have lived in Wabush, NL for 18 years. It is a small mining town on the west side of Labrador. There is a population of about 2000 people living in Wabush. We have long cold winters and short rainy summers. It is an unbelievably supportive community, with lots of love. I feel very fortunate to have grown up in a town where you know everyone and everywhere you go people are always so friendly. We enjoy many outdoor activities here, personally snowmobiling and hunting/fishing are my favourite, I started to fish when I was 2 years old with my dad, and have loved it every since! But, we have many others great outdoor activities such as downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, hiking, dirt biking, and sliding for the little kids!

Beautiful Labrador Winters

I’m very involved in my community and participate on 3 sports teams; volleyball, swimming and soccer. I’ve had roles in local musicals and I also, volunteer with various organizations like the local sports clubs, the Labrador West Winter Carnival, raising money for the Ronald McDonald House, Canada Day Celebrations, event parades and much more, my grandmother taught me at a very young age how important volunteering is and how giving back to your community is priceless.

I played the role of a young rich girl in the 1940’s in my last musical.

I have played soccer since the age of 4, and now coach younger kids.

Traveling is a passion of mine, and I some day plan to backpack the world! I have visited 7 provinces, 3 states, 8 different countries and 3 continents, I have been around North America, South America and Europe! I absolutely love experiencing new cultures and trying new things! I hope to some day have the opportunity to travel and volunteer with Projects Abroad, and help build houses for less fortunate, volunteer at orphaniages and working with animals.

I traveled on a tour of the WW1 sites in Europe for the 100th year Beaumont Hamel anniversary! This is a picture I caputured while in Vimy.

Last year I got to visit Amsterdam, it was such a beautiful City.

This year, I graduated from Menihek High School as a French Immersion student. I have been accepted to Mount Royal University for this coming fall to complete a bachelor of buisness, once I am finished I aspired to become a marketing manager. You may wonder why I chose this as my occupation, well for many years I have organized events such as a local pageant, fashion shows, and have promoted for many different businesses and events, I realized it’s something I’m good at and love to do, and I believe it is very important to always enjoy what you are doing for a job.

I am very excited to be representing Labrador at Miss World Canada. I hope to help raise awareness for females about body image. I believe it’s very important to be confident in your own skin! Pageants are a very powerful experience that provide so many positive opportunities.

I hope you all continue to follow me on my journey! I’ll be giving more blog updates in the next few weeks so make sure you keep an eye out for them!
