Today I decided to celebrate Canada Day by giving back. I decided to participate in a 5k run for Team Broken Earth. For those of you who have not heard of the organization, Broken Earth is a medical relief initiative that travels the world to provide medical relief, education and support to local people who need it the most.

It was really incredible to see so many people come out and participate in a healthy activity all while supporting such an incredible cause. I just wanted to write a quick post to congratulate all those who participated in today’s run.

While we’re on the topic of Canada Day, I want to take a minute to note the special significance of this day in Newfoundland and Labrador. On this day in 1916, the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel took place. That morning, 800 Newfoundlanders answered the role call for battle. That night, only 68 came back. Today is a very significant day for those of our unique and beautiful province. Let us take a moment today to honour and remember them amidst the celebrations.

Happy Canada Day!
